  3. Q:  What are these .nfs.nnnnn files in my directory?
  4.  
  5. A:  These .nfs files represent files that were opened and then unlinked on NFS clients.  When these files get closed, the .nfs files are removed.  But if your NFS client machine is rebooted while it still has one of these files open, then some link files might not be deleted.

  7. These are safe to delete if they are relatively old (e.g., older than your current login time).
